Will CrossFit exacerbate my injuries/sore back or knees.
Numerous clients of ours have come through the doors with previous injuries or tweaks and found relief from the pain by strengthening the muscles around the problem area. All to often people neglect exercising their low back due to fear of injury. Because of this they end up deconditioned, weak, and more susceptible to injury in the future from minor mishaps which is usually what happens. Taking part in CrossFit will strengthen you so that you are less susceptible to these kinds of injuries. The movements and workouts are all completely scalable allowing anyone to take part.
I feel CrossFit is too Expensive
At Crossfit Hawkes Bay you are coached by certified CrossFit trainers in a small group environment. So when comparing prices compare us to personal training because that is what you are paying for at CrossFit Hawkes Bay. We are Personal Training at a fraction of the cost.
What is a WoD?
It is the “Workout of the Day”. Every day we are open you will see the workout for that day posted on the website. The WoDs follow the Crossfit prescription of constantly varied, functional movement at High Intensity.
What if I can’t do the WoDs you post?
All athletes at CrossFit Hawkes Bay have various levels of fitness. There are some that can do the WoD at prescribed (RX’d) but there are others that cannot. We aim to scale the WoD to allow every athlete in the class to complete the movements as close to the workout requirements as possible while maintaining good technique. So For Example if the workout contains Pull-Ups then some athletes will use a Butterfly technique while others may be on resistance bands or performing jumping pull-ups or other variations of the movement applicable to the individuals abilities.
What if I don’t know what the exercises in the WoD’s are?
We have an on-Ramp programme that allows people new to CrossFit to learn some of the movements before entering the main classes. This can be booked separately and is a requirement to keep new athletes safe in class, to allow new athletes to learn new movements in a more focused environment and to allow the main classes to flow at a consistent pace. Once in the main classes you will continue to be coached to improve your technique.
Do I need to get fit before starting CrossFit?
NO! It is unlikely you will find a fitness regimen that will get you ‘Fit’ to join CrossFit Hawkes Bay. You will get fit by coming to CrossFit Hawkes Bay and completing the On-Ramp and participating in the classes. We have members of all ages and abilities all working at their intensity to achieve their results all within the supportive environment created by the community at CrossFit Hawkes Bay.
Will CrossFit make me bulky? I don’t want to get big?
No! Read this article about strength training and some of the misconceptions associated with women and gym weights.
How many times do you recommend coming in for beginners?
After your On-Ramp, we recommend three times per week to get the benefits that we advocate. Two times would be a bare minimum as there is a too greater gap between workouts and you won’t get the metabolic, neurological and muscular response.
What time are the classes and prices?

Do you sell t-shirts and sweat shirts?
Yes we make them to order.
